The Montreal Bike Fest
During the Bike Fest, Montreal becomes flooded with bicyclists participating in one of the five main cycling events that make up the festival. There are bike tours and challenges throughout the week-long festival, from May 29th to June 5th.
The most popular event of the Montreal Bike Fest is the Tour de l'Île de Montreal. This 50km (31 mile) course is one of the biggest of its kinds, seeing at least 30,000 cyclists leisurely pedal through the streets of Montreal. With its laidback nature, rest stations and snack stops, it's easy to forget how long the course is and just have a fun bike ride.
This tour starts at 9:15am at the avenue du Parc and finishes at Parc Jeanne-Mance. Although the Tour de l'Île de Montreal is longer than Un Tour la Nuit, registration rates are lower; adults pay $21.50 while kids and seniors pay $12. There are discounts and family prices for this tour as well, so be sure to check the Montreal Bike Fest website.
By far the most unique of the events is Un Tour la Nuit, a 20km course through the city at night. 12,000 bicycles decorated with lights, reflectors and anything that glows, take over the dark streets of Montreal in this luminous spectacle. The tour starts at Parc-La Fontaine at 8:30pm and finishes at Parc Jeanne-Mance. The regular adult rate of entry is $29, while kids and seniors is $16.
