The Montreal Fringe Festival
Looking to showcase some artistic talent, but worried you might not make the cut? No problem because everyone at The Montreal Fringe Festival is given an equal chance as an artist. So grab a brush or strike some chords, this is for you.
The Montreal Fringe Festival is a unique and revolutionary event allows artists of all genres and talent levels to share their gift with the world. The Montreal Fringe Festival is built upon four principles: 1) No Artistic Direction. Artists are selected by lottery. 2) No Censorship. Artists have complete freedom to present ANYTHING.3) Accessibility to artists. Anyone can apply to the lottery. 4) Accessibility to audience.
Ticket prices are kept low and 100% of the ticket price is returned to the artists you see on stage. Separate lotteries are held to fill the eventually decided 700 performances at The Montreal Film Festival. The lottery breakdown is as follows 20% Canadian artists, 20% international artists, and 60% Quebec artists (half of which are French and half of which are English.) So certain artists have different chances of being accepted into The Montreal Fringe Festival.
If you're planning on coming for a good part of the festival, spend your evenings at Auberge du Carré St-Louis. It's a convenient distance from the Théâtre Mainline and all the excitement at The Montreal Fringe Festival. So whether you are interested in simply watching the incredible spectacle or you want to try your hand at the lottery yourself, make sure The Montreal Fringe Festival is a part of your 2011 summer plans.
