Montreal Canadiens History
Hockey is already underway, so a trip to Montreal this fall must include a trip to watch the city’s beloved team. The Montreal Candiens’ history dates back to the early 1900s and over the years has gained a devoted fan following.
Dating back to the early 1900s, this cult classic team has one of the largest and most devoted followings in the history of the game. The Canadien's rich history starts with the team's first captain, coach and general manager in 1909, Jack Laviolette's leadership to the Candien's first playoff appearance to their first Stanley Cup, of 24, in 1916 to their Greatest Comeback Ever in 2008. In recent years a number of jersey numbers have been retired in honor of their players.
Hockey is a fast-paced, action-packed sport, so everyone will have a great time watching Montreal's beloved hockey team. Whether you know the game of hockey or not, a home game attendance is an absolute Montreal must, as the Canadiens are an important part of the city's history and identity.
